Villages, viewpoints & towns

Dorpjes, uitzichtpunten & steden

  • Altalena Gigante, Cossano Belbo — a giant swing with a stunning view over the Alps on clear days.
  • San Giorgio Scarampi — a little village with a tower visible from the house, reachable via a walking route right from our doorstep.
  • Roccaverano — the highest point of the Alta Langa. Climb the tower for sweeping views.
  • Montabone — perched on the last hill of the Alta Langa, with the vineyard-covered lower hills stretching out below.
  • Search "Big Bench", "Sedia Gigante" or "Panchina Gigante" on Google Maps — locals nominate beautiful, out-of-the-way spots where a giant bench or chair gets built.
  • Acqui Terme — remains of Roman-era baths.
  • Asti — worth a wander.
  • Nizza Monferrato — heart of Nizza wine country, lovely centre.
  • Altalena Gigante, Cossano Belbo — een reuzenschommel met een prachtig uitzicht over de Alpen op heldere dagen.
  • San Giorgio Scarampi — dorpje met een toren die je vanaf het huis kan zien, te bereiken via een wandelroute vanaf de deur.

  • Castello di Prunetto — a castle over 1,000 years old. Book ahead if you want to see the inside.
  • Chiesa di San Sebastiano, Cessole — a striking Baroque church, visible from the house in the distance. Not something you see often around here.
  • Castello di Serralunga d'Alba — a beautiful castle near Alba.
  • Castello di Prunetto — kasteel van meer dan 1000 jaar oud. Reserveer als je binnen wilt kijken.
  • Chiesa di San Sebastiano, Cessole — bijzondere barokke kerk, in de verte zichtbaar vanaf het huis. Niet iets wat je vaak ziet in dit gebied.
  • Castello di Serralunga d'Alba — prachtig kasteel bij Alba.

  • La Sosta in Langa, Loazzolo — great food, good wine, beautiful views. The drive there is gorgeous too (though that's true almost everywhere around here).
  • Canelli — famous wine houses ageing wine in underground cellars unique to the village. Tour & tasting: Coppo Winery. Lunch: Osteria dei Mervaigliati (lovely terrace) — many other good restaurants too.
  • Roccaverano goat cheese, best enjoyed at Osteria del Bramante in the village centre.
  • Alba and surrounding villages (La Morra, Barolo, Monforte d'Alba) — every village has its own lovely restaurant or osteria.
  • Lonati Winery, Castiglione Tinella — family-run winery at their Rocca delle Langhe estate. Tastings by reservation: a vineyard tour, barrel tasting, and a choice of wines paired with local cheeses and cured meats. Google Maps
  • Ristorante Della Posta, Olmo Gentile — cosy restaurant just a few minutes from the house. Google Maps
  • Agriturismo Borghetto La Radice, Roccaverano — restaurant on a farmhouse estate in the hills. Google Maps
  • La Sosta in Langa, Loazzolo — lekker eten, goede wijn, mooi uitzicht. De weg ernaartoe is ook prachtig (maar dat geldt eigenlijk overal hier).
  • Canelli — beroemde wijnhuizen, wijn rijpt in ondergrondse kelders, typisch voor dit dorpje. Tour met tasting: Coppo Winery. Lunch: Osteria dei Mervaigliati (mooi terras) — nog veel meer goede restaurants.
  • Geitenkaas uit Roccaverano, heerlijk bij Osteria del Bramante in het centrum van het dorp.
  • Alba en de dorpjes eromheen (La Morra, Barolo, Monforte d'Alba) — elk dorpje heeft z'n eigen heerlijke restaurantje of gezellige osteria.

  • Swimming pool right in Vesime — Piscina Comunale, Piazza Gallese Damaso, open daily 10:00–19:00 in season. Or Villa Gelso — €25 entry, reserve ahead by calling the phone number listed on its Google Maps page.
  • Riviera Erro — a river about 30 minutes away (near Cartosio/Melazzo), with several easy spots to reach the water for a refreshing dip. It's not an official swimming beach, so best avoided after heavy rain or if the water looks murky.
  • E-bike rental: Canelli, Nizza Monferrato & Acqui Terme, or La Luna Buona — reserve ahead by calling the phone number listed on its Google Maps page.
  • Parco Regionale di Piana Crixia — for a bit of wilder nature.
  • Zwembad in Vesime zelf — Piscina Comunale, Piazza Gallese Damaso, dagelijks open 10:00–19:00 in het seizoen. Of Villa Gelso — €25 entree, reserveer van tevoren via het telefoonnummer op hun Google Maps-pagina.

  • Santo Stefano Belbo — 20 km. Antiek- en vintagemarkt elke 4e zondag van de maand, 8:00–18:00, Piazza Umberto I.
